Dear Ted,
First of all I would like to thank Contours Travel for all your advice and assistance in planning aspects of our trip to South America last year. I was also able to enjoy a chat with you where you kindly offered further advise, outside of tours that we had booked with you, and this proved very valuable - particularly when it came to cruising the Amazon. The Galapagos Islands was the main component of our travel was organised with Contours travel and was an unforgettable experience.
I have included a few photographs from our trip for your perusal. My partner Jason and I are artists and photographers. If you may be interested in displaying or purchasing any photographs for your office and shop or for any print material, please feel free to contact us to view our South American folio.

We travelled South America in 2007.
With blisters on blisters and altitiude sickness we hiked snow capped mountains.
We drove the lonely highways of the Atacama desert.
We caught piranha and swam in the waters of the steaming Amazon jungle.
And worked out with muscle bound freaks in the rusty gyms of Copacabana.
We rode a red rickshaw to the Bolivian frontier, watched an active volcanoe fill the skies in Ecuador, bought lingerie and religious statues in the same store and ate pizza topped with cherries.
We risked our lives to lay on a perfect hidden beach in Brasil.
We got caught up in parties, parades and protests...
And we photographed the whole lot...

Thank you very much for your advice and assistance during the planning of our awesome holiday.
Best regards, Gemma M, February 2008

Hi Ted
Just came back from dinner. Thanks for the update.
This hotel is fine. The decor is a bit tired in the rooms but its in a good position and the staff so far have been helpful. We are having fun, met loads of people and seen some great sights. I can't believe we leave in only 2 weeks.
Will contact you on our return.
Regards, Bernard, February 2008

Hello.  Just a quickie as we head of the Brazilian side this morning. Our flight back today has been cancelled so we are leaving earlier - no problem we just start earlier this morning and move faster. Feel as if we are just one step ahead of the posse thus far. We seem to just scrape by with our flight delays and changes.  Thank goodness I don't have a large group is all I can say. Yesterday was great. Did the big walking day on the argentine side, and got soaked of course. Pls tell ted from contours how wonderful everyone is. Last year's guide saw me at the airport yesterday and recognized me after a year.
We couldn't survive here without contours - I already have stories of two lots of groups who did internet bookings for their supplementary arrangements which of course have been a disaster because we had to change everything.
Have to fly,  Anne, February 2008

Hi Ted
We are back from our trip and we had a wonderful time. Just for your future bookings Colonia del Sacremento is like heaven and needs more nights whereas Colonia del Suisa has nothing to offer and should come off your itinerary. All accommodation was wonderful and representatives were great. Thank you for a memorable holiday.
Regards Paul, January 2008

Hi Heather,
Did not want another day to pass without telling you what a fantastic job you have done with our tour to date. Now in day 8 and just arrived into Puno and checked into the hotel. The itinerary you and Ted put together has been quite simply - brilliant! The standard of hotels above our expectations but you sure spoilt us in Machu Picchu -what an incredible hotel but the actual ruins etc currently the highlight of the trip to date. All the arrangements have been near perfect and the excellent service from your ground handlers to date - outstanding.
Please pass on our thanks to Ted as well. Tell him we just love S A and reckon heaps and heaps more Australians need to experience this place and I am going to help him to ensure they do!
Thanks again for everything to date.
Kind regards John, January 2008

Trying to obey your rules re drinking… BUT…you forgot to mention Pisco Sour!!! Mmmm!! Having wonderful time and loving Peru. No problems with altitude and we had the BEST guide… Juan… who knows and like Snr Ted. He knows EVERYTHING. We were thrilled to have him. I have lots of funny stories to tell!!! See you soon…
Susan & Paul, December 2007

Dear Susan
I've just read the whole email to the girls in the office and we think your 'service' is fabulous. You may not realise it but we seem to just BATTLE with some of our wholesalers and it really does wear you down. We have had massive issues with some of them and they actually send back emails saying they will answer within 5 working days! So please pat yourselves on the back for providing a REAL service and those of us that struggle with some of the things we have to do every day really do appreciate it. You make us look good and I can't say that about too many of our 'preferred' wholesalers at the moment. Many thanks and we will think of Contours as often as we possibly can as regards to pushing business your way.
Many thanks.
Cyd B, Travel Consultant, December 2007

Hi Ted,
am writing to thank Ben for the great job he did organising our fares to Chile and Venezuela. His advice regarding tours in Chile and the hotel he booked for us in Santiago was tops.
We had a fantastic time.
Kind regards, Natalia and Anna, December 2007

Hi Ted
Well what a wonderful trip we have had thanks to your excellent advice and planning.
We have kept a diary and are now up to day 93.  We are in Temuco and have handed the car back.  No dramas with the driving.  It has been a good few days. We enjoyed the freedom and it has helped us wind down ready for home.  Our favourite places (not necessarily in order) were Cusco/Sacred Valley/ Machu Picchu, Patagonia/Southern Chile, Iguassu and the Amazon.  We loved Brazil too.
Perhaps we can catch up with you sometime if its convenient.  Just let us know.  We will certainly be able to recommend you to our friends.
Regards, Laurie & Jo, November 2007

Hi Tiffany,
I had lunch with the clients yesterday and found out what a wonderful time they had and that they are happily betrothed.  I saw their Sandals Wedding Album which is beautiful and classily put together, such a wonderful keepsake.
I also saw tonnes of photos which has certainly increased my dreaming of getting to Jamaica myself one day.
Thank you again for all of your help and you couldn't ask for happier clients.
Have a Great Day!
Kind Regards
Sharron, November 2007

Gday Ben
Our highlights have been Galapagos, Cuenca (you were right it is a most beautiful town), Cusco, Manu, Titicaca, La Paz (the largest open air market in the whole world!!), the whole Inca experience and obviously Machu Picchu.  Explora at Atacama was wonderful - superb ambience, food and wine to die for.
We are now in Bariloche and as you well know it is a stunning part of the world - snow capped mountains and wonderful lakes and so so green.  We were unable to go out yesterday as it rained pretty well non-stop.  From here we continue south to Los Cerros and Torres del Paine.  So our trip is fast coming to an end - it certainly has been an amazing and fascinating journey through some of the most beautiful scenery in the world.
By the way we were talking to a guy and showed him our itinerary - he looked at it and was most impressed with its calibre and said to pass his comments onto you - not the first time the itinerary has provoked such a response.  So once again thanks for spending so much time on it - there have been no hitches and the tour operators have been great.
Regards
Val & Mike, October 2007

Hi Guys,
We are now 6 wks into our trip so have reached the half way mark.  South America continues to delight and amaze.  We've just spent a couple of days in Cusco, Peru one of the most important Inca cities set beautifully in a valley with some high mountain ranges with a population of 350,000 and an altitude of 3400metres!!!
Our trip to the jungle to Manu Wildlife Centre in the Manu National Park was wonderful - the park is a world biosphere for the diversity of its wildlife species ensuring its protection.
Our time in Peru is almost at an end - it has been amazing - the life, the colour, the Inca influence overlaid with Spanish colonial architecture is fascinating.  Machu Picchu was indescribable and we had to pinch ourselves to believe we were really there - we did the short version of the Inca trail - just one day and that was difficult enough with the altitude but very rewarding and MP itself is mystical and spiritual tucked away high in the clouds - a testament to the Incas who were certainly experts in architecture.
We go next into Bolivia and Lake Tititaca, the highest navigable lake in the world at 3800m and on the places we will be staying requires us to climb 200 steps which we'll be doing extremely slowly!!
Cheers Val and Mike, October 2007

Dear Ted,
Our group returned from South America on the 24th of August, 2007.
We wish to take this opportunity in thanking "Jaqueline" for the manner she handled our many enquiries and itinerary for the group and for the interest she took in making sure that everything was perfect.
We have organised many groups to various parts of the world over our 45 years in Business and must say that Jaqueline is one of the best consultants we have ever dealt with and you as Managing Director of Contours can be proud as she is an asset to your organisation.
We shall have no hesitation in dealing with you again when the opportunity arises.
Yours sincerely,
Guido Canale, Manager, September 2007

Hi Ted
Back from our wonderful trip to Machu Picchu.  Having a great time and all going well.  We were amazed at the natural beauty of this majestic place.  Almost had a little drama on the way back when the train carriage caught fire!  Quite exciting.
Regards, Laurie & Jo, September 2007

Hey Ben,
I hope you've been well!
Just wanted to quickly let you know that I've absolutely loved the Bolivian part of my holiday! There is so much variety and so much to see and do. I just finished a three day jungle trip in Madidi national Park which was great. The worlds most dangerous road also had some amazing scenery (not that I was spending too much time looking at it as you could imagine!) and was a really tightly organised day with Gravity Assisted.
For me I think the highlight of Bolivia has been climbing Huayna Portosi, the mountain an hour and a half out of La Paz, but as I say, I've been so very impressed at how much there is to do here!
Take care,
Kepler, September 2007

Hi all,
After 3 days getting over jetlag in Santiago, we've now spent 8 wonderful days in Ecuador starting in Quito the capital - interesting city world heritage listed for its historic centre which is very beautiful.  Quito was our first experience of altitude at 2800 metres so although we had minor headaches and puffed a bit we have adjusted without any trouble or need for tablets.
We went from Quito on the Chiva Express a one carriage train that crosses the Andes from Quito to Cuenca - very spectacular scenery up to 3600 at one point - wonderful fertile country with lots of crops and fruits and also very dry in parts - we feel very much at home because eucalypt trees are everywhere.  We have just spent 4 days in Cuenca, Ecuadors third largest city of half million people, again world heritage listed and well deserved - it has absolutely beautiful buildings pre-colonial Spanish, republican (post Spanish) and Cuencan (mixture of both), very neat and tidy with lovely plazas, 4 rivers and fantastic markets - never seen so much food - both quantity and quality.  Tomorrow we are off for an 8 day cruise through Galapagos and very much looking fwd to that.
So far as language is concerned we have progressed to ordering wine, coffee and food and asking for the bill - we get some strange looks but all people are extremely friendly and helpful.  The Indians called Cholas are a mixture of Indian and Spanish and are very colourful in their brightly coloured ponchos and hats some like trilbies and others wear the traditional panama which actually come from Cuenca.  Our private guided tours have been fantastic - our guide here Gustavo is by far the best we've come across.  He took us to small villages outside Cuenca where we observed how the local Cholas live and we had a beautiful lunch at a 5 star hacienda where the wealthy Cuencanos go for weekends.
The weather has been cold in the mornings but warm to hot during the days - very pleasant for touring.  The colours, movement, sensations of life lived on the street is sometimes overwhelming in the most wonderful sense.  The food is wonderful - pork is very big and in fact we've seen lots of whole pigs being roasted - soup potato avocado and cheese is a specialty and the fruit juices are to die for - all completely natural and freshly squeezed including fruits we have never heard of.
Only downside is extreme poverty which is all around although Cuenca would be regarded as a wealthy city.
Its now 5.50pm and time for us to go to one of the magnificent bars next to an even more magnificent cathedral and say in our best Spanish "Senora dos vino tinto per favore" - you know what we mean Ben and we they obviously do as two red wines appear on the table!!Special thanks Ben for encouraging us to stay longer in Cuenca - it is as beautiful and more colourful and alive as any comparable cities in Europe we have seen - muchos gracias.
Adios and love to all,
Val & Mike, September 2007

Good morning Lisa,
I have just spoken with Sarah about her arrangements with you and she is overjoyed.  Arrangements made by Contours were without fault:  transfers and guides terrific all on time and so very helpful.  One in particular, Juan in SCL, went out of his way to make sure that Sarah & Meg were shown his city to experience all it had to offer.  (Great touch!!)
The highlight was obviously the jungle...........the resort, the area the experience most memorable.
The only negative, it there was to be one was that their time in Cuzco was maybe one day too long.
Thanks again Lisa for a job well done.  You make me look fabulous!!!!!
Kind regards, Nanette, August 2007

Dear Lisa
Don and I are the couple whose transfer didn't show up at Mexico City.
Thank you for the offer of a refund which we will gladly accept.
We had a fantastic holiday around Mexico City, in the Yuchatan Peninsula, Guatemala and Belize. Mexico is a fabulous country, the people, food and music are a wonder to behold.
Thank you for your part in it.
Roz B and Don C, July 2007

Hi Ben
Was going to send you some photos but we haven't loaded them up yet.
In a nutshell -Fantastic!
All went like clockwork and we have been singing your praises ever since we got back!  Would love to go to South America again so maybe when we have saved up again we will go to Carnivale!
Belinda W, July 2007

Hi Ben,
The trip so far has been pretty amazing. Just arrived back on land after 3 days at sea on Sulidae. The wildlife here has been pretty amazing having been snorkeling and had the chance to go swimming with sea lions.
Next stop is the Inca trail.
Adios, Donna, July 2007

Hi Ben,
Just to let you know our clients are back home safe n sound and had a marvelous time.
T
he cruise they say was absolutely fantastic - only 30 pax on board.
T
he car was a bit of a worry!!! They had to get repairs done to it twice! And they did get a couple of extra days rental out of them, as getting a refund for the expense of repairs seemed a bit difficult.
Thanks again for all your help - another satisfied customer!!
Cheers Judith, May 2007

Hi Tiffany,
I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you personally along with Contours and the Jamaica Tourist Board for the opportunity to visit Jamaica last week. It was an amazing experience and one that I will remember in more ways than one!  My knowledge of this destination has increased along with my confidence to sell the Caribbean in general. You escorted a challenging group with poise and direction and I can not thank you enough for giving our office the chance to join a famil to this destination.  We will be sure to send all our bookings your way.
Speak to you soon.
Kind regards, Kirsty, May 2007

Hi Ben,
Well our mission has finally come to an end and I arrived safely back in Australia on Saturday. I wanted to start off by thanking you deeply for everything over the last 7 months.  This trip would never had gone so smoothly had it not been for your patience, knowledge and your forever ongoing support either here in oz or back overseas. You put my mind at ease about travelling to Cuba and we can officially say that this place is now my second home.  I loved it their and will certainly be going back by the end of the year.
Muchisimas Gracias Ben.
Emily, May 2007

Hi Ben
Thanks for your email. Mexico is fantastic. The SAT Mexico tour people are really good and no probs with pickups and transfer. Loved Mex City and now Puerto Morelos. The resort is fantastic. Only 6 rooms are booked out of 85. We are getting the royal treatment. I would highly recommend the resort to others. Heading off to Cuba tomorrow. Very excited.
Cheers Josie, May 2007

Tiffany; Just a short note to let you know that we had a great time in both the West Indies and Cuba. While the West Indies part was superb, for me Cuba was really fascinating. As you specifically mentioned the lobster dinner in Trinidad (Cuba) at Vivian's was sensational! In fact we had 5 lobster meals in Cuba in the 6 days we were there! Thanks again for organizing everything so well.
Regards Derek, May 2007

Hi Tiffany
You did a fantastic job with our event and your team were a great support to you. Paul and I would like to thank you for your efforts and professionalsim and ensuring LG and their customers received a great trip to the cricket.
Regards, LG Electronics Australia, May 2007

Hi Tiffany,
I just wanted to say thanks so very, very much for all of your efforts in putting our holiday together.  We had the most amazing time in the Caribbean.  Our hotel in Grenada was awesome.  The hotel in Barbados was great also, not quite as flash as Grenada though. We loved Grenada the best of our destinations.  Barbados is very touristy, and Andrew and I like to see how the locals live, not so much the tourists. We had no problems with any of our flights, transfers, and accommodation whatsoever.  I thought I'd let you know that, as I'm sure you're always hearing about the bad things, rarely the good.  All round, it was the most perfect holiday.
A
gain, Andrew and I really want to pass on our thanks and congratulations for the organisation of a holiday that we feel was simply the best.
Cheers, Andrew and Nerissa C, May 2007

Hi Tiffany,
We had a great time and everything worked well.
Cheers Tony S, May 2007

Tiffany
Thanks for your assistance with our trip.   All went very smoothly and we had a fantastic time.
Regards Alan H, May 2007

Hi Tiffany -
Mary and I had a terrific time in the West Indies - no major problems, and all your bookings worked out really well. We loved the hotels you booked (and we agree - Blue Horizons is definitely better than the Flamboyant). Plus we won the World Cup so easily, it didn't matter that the umpires didn't know the rules.
Best wishes - John P, May 2007

Hi Gillian,
Just a quick note to say that our trip thru Peru & Bolivia was great.
T
he local agencies (in particular in Peru) were very professional and ensured our whole trip ran as smoothly as possible.
Very impressed with the service provided by yourself and Contours Travel and we will recommend Contours to any friends travelling to Sth America.
Thanks again,

Hola Ben,
Thank you for the prompt processing of our refund, it is very much appreciated.
We also appreciated all your attentiveness and advice in organising our trip to South America, and hope to be in touch in the future.
It was a trip we will fondly remember for a long time.

Hi Ben, thank you very much for organising our group. They really loved Iguasu – A. has a video of the trip. She really raved about it and the Brazilian side is a "must see "too. H. and D. loved Santiago I hear. All of Anne photos are fantastic. The group loved BUE.
According to her all Contours arrangements worked very smoothly. So thank you for all your hard work. Chantalle, February 2007

Greetings Ben from Carnaval,

Having an awesome time on my trip, thanks heaps for everything you did to organise it all so thoroughly for me

Can’t thank you enough for organising my trip, have met some others who seem to have dodgy travel agents! I have some whopper blisters from the Inca trail, but it was well worth it. I had the best time. I'm planning to go back very soon, and visit the people I met over there, so you may be seeing me very shortly!!!
Nicole, February 2007

Dear Ben

Thankyou for organizing our great trip.  We loved our time in the Antarctic and could not fault the Peregrine expedition staff on the Ioffe. We enjoyed Easter Island and had about the right amount of time there. I think that at the end of the Antarctic voyage a day before flying out might be a wise thing as sometimes ships are delayed,  The Ioffe was delayed on the return trip after dropping us off and those passengers would  have to have had tickets resheduled.

Ben, all in all a wonderful trip, made great by your excellent arrangemants.  Thankyou

Christine and Peter, February 2007

Hi Ben,

We had a great trip.  What a great country. From Playa del carmen to Mexico City went pretty well.  Had some adventures in Chichen Itza, Palenque and San Christobal; going to see the butterflies was fantastic, the Copper Canyon was amazing and the whale watching was a real highlight.  Lots of things in between too - more ruins, amazing cultures, shopping, eating, drinking, chilling out, hanging out.  It was really great.

We want to go back!  Next time I think i'll just go to Bahia or the Yucatan or hang out in the centre instead of trying to do it all, but it was great to be able to see as much as we did.  Thanks for all your help getting things organised.

Cheers, Vanessa, February 2007

Hi Jaqueline,
We had a great holiday and everything went according to plan. Our accommodation right throughout the tour was excellent, especially Machu Picchu and
Iguazu Falls. We had a nice Christmas at Cape Horn and it was nice and calm. New Years Eve at the Tango Show was also very nice and we enjoyed our three days in Buenos Aires. It was also nice to
unwind in Iguazu Falls and we had a great time there.
Thank you Jaqueline for your efforts in organizing our tour we appreciate it very much.
Kindest regards, Charles and Jenny, January 2007

Dear All,

Well here we are back in the 21 Century. God Bless good old Capitalism!  I think we are both Cuba-ed out. Anyway Mexico City is like a breath of fresh air, figuratively speaking, because the place is hangs in a blanket of smog. Isn’t it the most populated city in the world?  We were met by the same guide our friends had. He took us straight from the airport to the Museum of Anthropology.  Our heads were swimming with Toltecs, Olmets? And Aztecs..... We have to get a book in English to piece all the civilizations together.  The museum was SO impressive and such a lot to take in especially after an early start, 2 flights, no breakfast or lunch.  Finally we were deposited at our hotel at about 2.30pm so charged up to the terrace bar for a smorgasbord of flavours. Food never tasted so good.  Bring on all those chillis and spices Mexico! We have a great view of the Zocalo which is the heart of the old city where the Presidential Palace, Cathedral and other notable buildings stand. Tomorrow we are off to Teotihaucan, the huge pyramid a little way out of town, via the shrine of Gaudalupe Mexicos patron saint.

Lots of love to all, Julie and John, November 2006

Hi Ben!!

A trip of a lifetime! San Pedro was incredibly hot!! We've both got tans just from walking to and from our hotel! Vina del Mar was fantastic! Our first mall experience for the trip! I think it's safe to say that we both went a little crazy!

Torres hiking was unbelievable- it's a little hard to come down from that!

Now in El Chalten I think we're getting a little jaded! But we're up to our 2nd day of Chalten hiking and today we had brilliant weather so views were great!

Our Spanish is also improving by the day.....papas fritas....chocolate caliente....los banos.....

Hi Tiffany
Many thanks for your email & for your efforts on my behalf ( & other I know but it feels like its for me !!)
I wouldn't have your job for quids - so congratulations & remember you never know how the things you do effect the lives of others - my sincere thanks it all looks great & I am now starting to get excited.

Off to the Ashes in Brissy next week that will really get me in the right mood -
Thank you again

Dear Tiffany,
I arrived at work this morning to find our holiday package waiting for me. Thank you - it becomes reality when one sees one's name on a ticket. I have just had time to have a quick peruse of the contents and it all seems great. A BIG thank you also for the phrase book which will come in mighty handy since I have had to skip some of my Spanish classes this last few weeks.
I am loving our friends' emails from Guatemala. It was always a toss up between Guatemala and Mexico for this trip but Mexico won since it was logistically the better choice. However I now MUST go! Might be nice combined with a taste of Colombia?? and Jamaica?
Again many thanks for everything. I will touch base with you soon.
Kind regards, Julie R, October 2006

Dear Ben,
Thank you for spending so much of your time with us both on Saturday, and let me say once again how reassuring it is to have someone on our side like you who knows what they are doing, and has had on the ground experience in South America.  A huge relief to us both!

Kind regards

Hi Ben,
Thank you for all the information. Ill get into that over the weekend and create a better plan for myself now that I have the info. I was raving about you at Spanish last night, consequently my friend is planning to come and see you, she'll probably phone today.
Also, The Spanish Cat (where Im learning Spanish), is trying to create a tie with a travel company to organise trips specialising in Central/South America.

Hi Ted, Just a note to say thank you so much for all your time & effforts to give us such a well planned, comfortable, successful trip.
Am back into the reality again, but my spirit & mind are still over in South America, which exceeded everything I ever thought could be possible.  Not once did I feel it was dangerous, even Colombia was amazing-  So sorry re-my friends problems, but at the end of Galapagos she did not want to leave the boat, she enjoyed it so much, & we came home still friends, & both agreeing it was the best trip ever, & when I asked her her favourite highlight, she went through the whole trip, everywhere was the best, what can I say, well I can say as an evangalist, a missionary girl usually, that I will advertise my trip to the max, just for the sheer enjoyment of recall & will certainly make sure everyone who desires to go to that neck of the woods, will go through you.
I hope, I really do, that I can do a little more of Sth. America at some later stage, it was soooo interesting, so until then.
P Meredith, August 2006

Thankyou for all the organising that you for Pamela and I.  I would really like to express my thanks to all the people who were involved in making our holiday as smooth as possible.  The guides who were allocated to us were wonderful and beautiful people, this also included the drivers, the staff on the Calondrina boat in Galapagos Island, although we were a bit shock for the first 2 days you still kept the smiles coming and won us in the end.  Our thanks also goes to the hotel selections you have allocated to us, each and all of them presented themselves in their own unique way to make our stay with them enjoyable.
So again thankyou for everything you have done for us.

Hi Ted & Staff

We had a great time and loved all the different experiences, all the tour guides and coach drivers were excellent and the range of accommodation was great we had some fun with the varied plumbing fittings and water supply (on lack of at times). The plumbing was hot conversation, to see who had water on hot water.

Many thanks P+I Lane, June 2006

Dear Ted

It was an excellent well planned trip.

The hotels were good – the one in Quito not quite up to standard of others, the stairs were difficult with cases. Machu Picchu Pueblo was wonderful.

Local guides – I was impressed by their knowledge, enthusiasm, warmth and willingness to please us at all times. All were native Indian except Erich in Bolivia – he had everything but the warmth probably due to his Austrian background, but he was terrific otherwise. Lucy in Ecuador was lovely but the best was Willy in Peru. All bus drivers were good.

Time in the Amazon Valley was most interesting – the time in the bird hide to view the macaws was amazing. The long boat ride from Puerto Maldonado and back again a bit uncomfortable but bearable. I will not forget the sound of the howler monkeys!

The days in Peru with Willy were the best for me. The Inca history is concentrated over 500 years but so varied – his descriptions were excellent. Mach Picchu was probably the highlight as that is what I went for. The salt pools and concentric terraces in the Sacred Valley were amazing.

I admit I was furious at missing the plane at Lima – one always takes note of the time on the ticket! However it all worked out in the end and apart from back-tracking a couple of times we did not miss out – thanks to Lyn on behalf of us. There were other times when things did not go according to plan but one must expect that in the type of countries we were in and one has to be patient. I thought the occasional outburst from some people was unwarranted.

The INKA EXPRESS bus from Cuzco to Puno was an excellent alternative to the Andean Explorer. The driver and the host Manuel got us through the very sticky situations – something to talk about over dinner parties!
Lake Titicaca was an eye opener with its size, Uros Island, Taquile Island and then Sun and Moon Island on the Bolivian side.

Spectacular views of the Andes from the plane as we flew will not be forgotten, but the plane trip from La Paz to Arica en route to Santiago was very scary. Also the economy seating in domestic flights in South America is VERY cramped.

I was impressed with the attention given by you and the local companies to my friends G. and V. Obviously they were so disappointed but we all came home together which was good.

Thanks again and I have already given your name to people who have not yet been to South America.

Dear Ted

I thoroughly enjoyed my five weeks in South America. All the guides were outstanding, especially Lucy in Ecuador and Willie in Cuzco. They showed particular concern for our health and safety as well as making sure we enjoyed everything.

The accommodation was varied and interesting – beds were comfortable.

When things did go wrong (missed flight, train strike) they were handled in a professional manner and to our satisfaction.

Yours faithfully, L James, July 2006

Dear Ted

It was a great group and we all seemed to mould together. It was a well planned itinerary and what a pity we mucked it up by missing that flight. However Lyn and Explorandes worked very hard to come up with a compromise and being Aussies we adapted to the changes without too much trouble.

The guides and drivers were all excellent – Lucy in Ecuador and Willy in Cusco were just wonderful. We were looked after so well.

I think that the highlight of our tour would have to be Machu Picchu. We were fascinated by the Inca ruins both at Machu Picchu, Cusco and in the Sacred Valley and we marvelled at the skills of such an ancient civilization. My great accomplishment was to climb the mountain behind Machu Picchu with 4 others from our group and Willy our guide.

We enjoyed the countryside, the villages and seeing the people wearing their traditional dress. Pisac market was a bonus and I know that everyone enjoyed that experience. Viewing from the air some of the minor tributaries of the mighty Amazon made us wonder and imagine the awesome size of the main waterway.

We found all the accommodation on the whole to be very good. Bellavista in the Cloud Forest was fairly rugged, but a great experience, as were the bungalows in the Amazon Jungle.

I cannot speak highly enough of your agents in Peru and Chile. Explorandes in Cusco and Lima gave us wonderful support while G. was in hospital and while he was recuperating. Cocha to a lesser extent in Santiago provided us with the transfer to the hotel and enquiries about G’s health. It was reassuring to have that support.

Yours sincerely, V & G McPherson, June 2006

Dear Ted,

Overall the trip was very enjoyable, the accommodation was generally good and the itinerary well balanced. Whilst there certainly were several hiccups, one cannot be too critical, given the developing nature of the countries and their attitude to timing and punctuality.

In relation to the highlights of the trip, the Galapagos was great and Cusco, Quito and La Paz are not to be missed. Machu Picchu was another highlight and I was pleased that we actually stayed near the sight for two nights and didn’t just travel out for a day trip.
Thanks for arranging a great trip, I certainly would recommend it to friends.

Dear Ted

It is hard to find words to express how I felt during the trip, and how I feel now after it is all over. It is one of the best experiences I have ever had. Your excellent planning with Lyn enabled us to enjoy and learn so much, and the wonderful guides we had, particularly in Ecuador and Peru, added so much to our enjoyment. Many many highlights were experienced and it is hard to isolate any one. Many of us felt it all came together in Bolivia when we visited Tiwanaku, which has such a history, yet much more has yet to be discovered.

I was most impressed at the tour company ‘Explorandes’ at the way they handled the rearrangements with Lyn in Lima after our unfortunate flight timing. Much time was spent in this and we may have missed a day in Cusco and in the Amazon. I feel we were extremely fortunate in not having any other flight problems as South America does have a reputation for this. We met some Americans in Lima who had been waiting for three days to get their flights home…

I also appreciate your efforts in handling the situation and appreciate your generosity in the fact we had no extra charges.

Explorandes also came to the party with the bus from Cusco to Puno, and the difficulties experienced on that trip were handled most capably by Manuel the guide. At no time did I feel fear as he exuded confidence and got us safely to Puno.

Certainly I am much more aware of these countries and am so pleased that at last I have visited them. The wonderful Andean Alps, the scenery, the colourful markets, the colourful clothing of the people and their friendliness, the almost obscene amount of gold in the many churches, wonderful Sun Island with the delightful cabins overlooking the Royal Range, actually walking on the Inca Trail until the track closure, the fascinating Inca bridge along a most beautiful walking track filled with flowers, pisco sours everywhere until I had reached saturation point, and of course the absorbing history, much of which is theory which makes it all the more interesting to know how and why… In my next life I would lobe to be an archaeologist.

Thanks Ted.

Yours sincerely, Barbara, June 2006

Hi Ted, You probably have some feedback on the tour already as I presume Lyn has done so. Apart from the issue of the missed flight, my wife and I had an amazing adventure and whilst we certainly could have stayed longer in some areas we realise this would have shortened or precluded us from staying and seeing as much as we did. For the time we had in the countries we visited we could not have done, or seen more. Itinerary format was excellent.

Although shortened due to missing a flight, our stay at Heath River Lodge was very good, but I could not say the same for Sandaval Lodge. The food was good at Sandaval but the accommodation was, basically, for backpackers. A very noisy lodge to stay at. Also at Sandaval there were some safety and sanitary issues, also very limited in ones activities. All other food and accommodation was excellent or better IE Machu Picchu and Cusin.

Highlights - just loved Bella Vista, Mindo and the whole area, could spend several weeks there. Cusco the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu, could spend months there, absolutely amazing.

Please pass our sincere thanks to all the guides and the excellent and courteous bus drivers. Two guides, although as I said they were all very good, really endeared themselves to us. Lucy, or Anna Lucia Morales in Ecuador. Or the age of only 23 she was very professional and always gave that special something extra. And Willy, or Wilfed Huilica, in Peru. Willy was amazing in many ways. His dedication and passion to the culture of his country certainly was passed onto all of us. And his music…..so good. He certainly is a wonderful man. We hope we can in touch with both Willy and Lucy and one day they may visit Australia so we may return their passions.

Ted, you did a wonderful jog of the whole tour, so much seen in a relatively short time. I would also like to thank Explorandes in looking after V. and G. when G. took ill in Cusco. I believe they totally looked after both of them in Lima and Santiago, we would recommend the tour company to anyone.

Oh, the other highlight………for me anyway…….seeing the BIGGEST Bromeliad, even though the road to get to Comanche was atrocious…..was it worth it…….you betcha.

Many thanks Ted, Sue and I would like to visit other parts of South America especially the Tepuis of Venezuela, and do a “specific” tour to see Bromeliads in their natural habitat. Chile, Argentina and the Antarctic are also on our list.

Greetings from Machu Picchu.
A week and a half in we thought your might like to know of the excellent service we've received from your partners in South America.
Mike lost his satchel containing passport and all sorts of important things at Customs at Santiago airport. Immediately phoned TURISMO COCHA who responded very quickly, phoned the airport, established they had the satchel, came to the hotel, took Mike to the airport, escorted him through the recovery process and escorted him back to the hotel.Top performance and much appreciated.
In Lima we made use of the free medical service provided by Condor Travel.A doctor came promptly to the hotel, was very thorough in his examination, administered an injection and arranged for medication to be delivered to the hotel. It arrived an hour later and from that moment Sandy started to pick-up.
Cusco provided a great introduction to things Inca. The Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu have more than met our expectations. Some altitude sickness has been more inconvenience than real illness.
Many thanks for your professionalism.

Dear Jaqueline,
Our group had a wonderful tour and some told us it was great value for money and all the operators were really excellent and sorted out any problems immediately. Two of my clients even told me I had undersold the destination and it was so much better than even we said.I like to hear that as while I am always enthusiastic it is always better if the experience exceeds expectations. They thought Machu Picchu was awesome and the glaciers bigger and better than Alaska. They found the Bolivians the most friendly of all countries visited! Those that extended to Rio while visiting the Statue of the Redeemer said it was in low cloud but the head kept suddenly appearing out of the mist in golden sunlight.

We had a great time. The arrangements in
Peru were simply outstanding and their people efficient and caring. They did not miss a beat. The schedule allowed us to see everything we had asked for yet still gave us some very welcome free time which we used to good advantage to absorb different aspects of South America. On reflection though, we should have worked in some time in Patagonia. Perhaps next time.
Machu Picchu was much more impressive than we expected, even with our high hopes. Cuzco and Ollantaytambo were intensely interesting and charming in their own ways, and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience.  The cities themselves were diverse and interesting, ranging from the dourness of La Paz to the extraordinary freedom of Rio and the charming boulevards of Buenos Aires. We have the photos to prove it!We never felt threatened or concerned in any of the cities, which we explored on foot at every opportunity, guided by common sense.

"Thankyou Contours for an excellent job of putting together a wonderful 5-week holiday for us commencing in far southern Patagonia and proceeding generally northward in the spectacular Andean mountain and lake country of Argentina and Chile and up to the Atacama desert in far northern Chile. A few days on Easter Island on our way home to Australia completed a most enjoyable trip during which all arrangements for plane, boat and bus travel and for accommodation, transfers, tours and local guides could not have worked out more smoothly. We were extremely impressed by the competence, friendliness and helpfulness of all who made our experiences so memorable."

After our couple of little dramas getting their it all ended up working out just fabulous and better still I came home with a beautiful engagement ring after Craig proposed to me while swimming in the beautiful waters on sunset. We appreciated the wonderful trip you organised for us. We had a fantastic time with no dramas. It was great to be 'hand held' and were really happy to have been picked up and dropped off. The language was not a real problem, however could have been if we were not so well taken care of. Many thanks for your efforts.

The trip you organised was sensational, everything went like clockwork, all our bookings, hotels, plane flights etc were spot on. The Peruvian people were excellent, particularly in Cuzco, and our guides were all very good. Machu Picchu was fascinating and the native markets at the train station at Aguas Calientes provided great opportunities for the girls to shop. The trip to Reservas Amazonas was a highlight for us, we had an excellent guide. We found tipping a little, early, was appreciated and we were then well looked after at our hotels. It doesn't take much!
