“You organized a tour for us in conjunction with Helene Bryant-Griffiths at Jetset Cua Travel in Brisbane to South America and I just wanted to drop you a few lines to tell you how happy were with everything. The whole itinerary followed on beautifully and all our guides and tours were excellent and the people lovely wherever we went. Patagonia was our favourite but each location offered a special beauty of its own. The weather was kind to us with hardly any winds and lovely blue skies with quite warm days. We even got to disembark at Cape Horn. Anyway we would highly recommend Contours Travel to any of our friends who were thinking of going to South America, and in fact have already done so.”

“I just wanted to send a quick email to thank you for your time and advice regarding our recent South America trip. I know Michael emailed earlier, but I just arrived home a week ago and found that overall the trip went very smoothly, with admirable advice on timing whilst allowing enough flexibility for change, organisation and seeing the best of each place. I have attached a photo of me from the top of the statue of Christ Redeemer in Rio, and another taken on the Fitz Roy Grand Tour (4 day hike) in Patagonia (a side trip I put in last-minute by flying from BA to El Calafate, then travelling by bus to El Chalten – it was WELL worth it, absolutely amazing in fact!!!). The trip was truly wonderful and I will definitely recommend your services to any friends who are thinking of visiting the region.”

“Just wanted to say that Peru is truly amazing, it’s extremely hot and humid in Lima, Chiclayo and Trujillo. I cant wait to see Cusco and Machu Picchu and get some relief from the heat. As your probably aware I had a slight hip up with one of the hotels in Lima. Also my luggage got damaged while travelling to Chiclayo. The tour agency has contacted LAN airlines and have spoken to them. Hopefully I can have it repaired by Samsonite when I get back into Lima after Trujillo. Nothing to major. The tour guides and my driver in Chiclayo and Trujillo are just great people, extremely professional. We connected straight away and we have had a ball during the last few days. Chiclayo and Trujillo is a place like no other in Peru. Extreme poverty and very dangerous when you head out of the city. Feels like you are in the Middle East. You wouldn’t want to backpack here; you might not make it back home. You have to see how families live in these neighbourhoods. It makes you appreciate the life you live back home. The Tucume Pyramids, Sipan Pyramids, Sun gate and Moon gate ruins were spectacular. Some places the site was only occupied by just me and my guide. Talk about private tour. It doesn’t get more private than that.I’m seeing the Chan Chan ruins today. It’s 6:28am local time. Off to have breakfast now, so I keep you posted..”

“We recently undertook a trip to the Andes (Cusco, Machu Picchu, Lake Titicaca, La Paz) arranged by our Australian Travel Agent (Contours Travel, Melbourne). This trip included a number of tours and transfers conducted by your company. In general we found your service excellent. The tours were interesting, the transfers efficient, pick up and drop off punctual, staff were polite and accommodating, with the guides having a high standard of English and a good knowledge of the places and people. We would certainly recommend your company to other travellers. It was the trip of a lifetime.”

“Karina and I have returned safely and are back into the swing or normal life. We had a great trip, with no major issues. The time worked out well, as we felt we spent long enough in each destination. It certainly is an adventure over there! I was amazed by the scenery, it such a beautiful place. Our highlights were Macchu Pichu, and Salt Flats in Bolivia. Both were amazing. We have some great photos. The bike ride was a scary experience but definitely recommended. We also did the San Pedro prison tour, which was a very interesting and crazy experience. I would like to thank yourself and Heather for the time you spent organising the trip. It was a great experience. If you want to use any photos or information just let me know.”

“News travels fast. We had a wonderful time. Our favourite hotel was the Camino Real in Oaxaca. Our favourite sites were Mexico City (especially the archaeological museum), Taxco, Teotihuacan, Monte Alban (Oaxaca) and Palenque. Copper Canyon was fabulous but we would have liked an extra day there or at least a late afternoon transfer rather than a morning transfer to and then the afternoon in Chihuahua which is a really boring city. The Sheraton in Mexico City was at an excellent location. The concierges there were variable. One insisted when we arrived that the Sheraton was the only hotel that night which was open for dinner in Mexico City. When we tested this, we found heaps of places open! Ketzel Tours were very reliable and the guides were generally great their English was good and most of them seemed to really enjoy their jobs which makes a big difference. Best guide was Elisabeth in Palenque who is Belgian but has a Mexican partner. The only tours we had to share were from Mexico City to Puebla and around St Cristobel. They were ok but the private tours were definitely much better and worth paying extra for. The guide we got to Chihuahua called Julio was English speaking and excellent. Julio told us that he was supposed to take us around on the previous day but had to take his daughter to hospital. No one however told us that the day before. We didn’t get to do the Hot Springs walk. We were told by Amigo Trails/Mario in Creel that the walk wasn’t anywhere near our day tour and would require another day. Overall though we cant complain. I think we were incredibly lucky that these were the only things that didn’t quite go our way. All the planes connected, all the hotels had our bookings and we were mostly picked up on time. The trip was beautifully organised and we really did have a fabulous time. We generally hated Mexican food so the best thing about coming home was the fresh fruit and vegetables. Only William got sick from the food for a day but apart from that we all stayed in good health. Thank you Jaquie again for arranging a marvellous trip for us. You did a fantastic job and we are extremely grateful.”

“We had an excellent trip. I would fly Lan Chile again but we were jiggered after 24 hours to get here. The tango show was marvellous – we even stayed awake! The dancing was brilliant but there was too much singing. What a difference a day makes! The city tour of Buenos Aires was terrific, although it was terribly hot. I learnt a number of new things about the place. Our flight to Ushuaia was quite a shemozzle. The flight was consistently delayed with a notice to go and ask the agent about it. The 4pm flight for Ushuaia eventually took off at 7 30 pm, with no explanation offered. We set off this morning on a 200 kilometre round trip through such glorious country, wonderful lakes and valleys, and of course, mountains. We trekked for an hour, then went for lunch. Oh, what a lunch! Salads and our own mini barbecue. They brought to the table a mountain of lamb, we thought it was for everyone else in the place, but no, it was just for us. I’m sure it was half a sheep and was so succulent, tender and sweet we couldn’t stop eating, and managed to finish most of it. Our guide was a real charmer from Buenos Aires. She works six months of the year here, then back to Buenos Aires. I wanted to bring her home for the boys! We’re having a quiet day today waiting to board the ship later in the day. Our hotel is up on the mountain with lovely views. El Calafate: Where to start? Antarctica is so magnificent I have run out of superlatives. It is a wonderland, white with penguins strutting their stuff like little waiters on a pure white tablecloth. It was really sad saying goodbye to all the wonderful friends we had made, but here we are in El Calafate. Today we have just returned from the Perito Merino glacier which was mind blowing. It’s not just another glacier, it calved many times, an awesome sight. Patagonia Camp: This is a magnificent region, Patagonia Camp is posh, posh, posh. Our yurt is deliciously, luxuriously warm and cosy. It’s really cold here and the wind is worse than the Antarctic. We have just returned from a day’s trekking. I’m positively bushed, mainly because of the wind. We saw a stunning waterfall and marvellous flowers. The food is terrific.”

“Yes the trip was absolutely fantastic. Your choices of accommodation were all great and everything went very smoothly, we thought the itinerary was perfect. The island was a perfect retreat from the chaos of the big cities and millions of tourists at other places we encountered. I think it was actually easier to get to Ilha do Boipeba than it was to get to Heath River Wildlife Centre. That 5 hour boat trip was a bit crazy with the low river, especially when it got dark. Apart from a couple of bouts of food poisoning (one on the Uyuni tour, one in BA) – we didn’t have any dramas at all, and all your local operators were great to us, except that they forgot to pick us up at the airport in Santiago when we first arrived. Our highlights were probably: – New Years Eve on Copacabana Beach – our hotel was in a very convenient spot for that – The Inca Trail – InkaNatura did a great job on the trail – The Uyuni tour – The glacier trekking in El Chalten. We also did some great horse riding, white water rafting and kayaking in Bariloche and El Calafate which was really well done. Thank you very much for your work in setting up the trip, it took out a lot of the unknowns and made travelling much easier. We met many people who thought our itinerary was clever, particularly things like staying at Ollantaytambo before the Inca Trail and Aguas Callientes afterwards and how much we could pack into 2 months by going the way we did.”

“Everything has been fantastic!! We are having a ball. Yes the Cusco Puno thing was very interesting and really didn’t make much difference in all reality honestly everything is terrific thanks to your great planning / organisation. We have been to Coroico today / catch the bus tomorrow for Oruro. Already the trip is half over…the tour operators-transfers etc have all been fantastic…cannot fault a thing. Will talk to you when we get home. There was snow today…now that’s a novelty for a Briisie girl…see ya.”

“We’re back from our wonderful trip! We’re so glad we used you to help us plan our holiday, as there is absolutely no way of imagining how expansive South America is or how difficult it can be to make choices and get from A to B until you actually get there. So a BIG THANK YOU to you. It was fantastic to have a kind and helpful operator greeting us at every point. Wonderful. Our guide, Luciano, excellent – so nice, so much knowledge. Have a good understanding of BA thanks to him. Loved the Eva Peron museum (we did on our own). To finish, thank you again, Heather – it was a wonderful trip which we will all remember. I can’t say how much we appreciate your help. If you want any more detail about anything, I’d be happy to send.”
