Join us on this two week tour exploring the best that Guatemala has to offer- visit the colonial city of Antigua, explore the colourful villages & markets of Chichicastenango and Huehuetenango, marvel at the beauty of Lake Atitlan and discover the ancient Mayan city of Tikal.
Itinerary
Day 1 Guatemala City
Arrive Guatemala City Airport & transfer to your hotel.
Day 2 Guatemala City/Antigua
Depart for the stunning colonial city of Antigua for a sightseeing tour of the most important sites, including the Cathedral, National Palace & San Francisco Church. (B)
Day 3 Antigua/Atitlan
Transfer to stunning Lake Atitlan, stopping en route to visit the archaeological site of Iximche, Mayan ruins composed of four large plazas, each with its own temples and distinct ceremonial use. Check into your lakeside hotel & overnight. (B)
Day 4 Atitlan/Quetzaltenango
Depart by boat across the lake to the picturesque village of Santiago Atitlan, one of the twelve lake-shore villages surrounding the Lake. Enjoy this bustling Indian community, where weavers work the colorful textiles. In the afternoon, transfer to Quetzaltenango. (B)
Day 5 Quetzaltenango/Huehuetenango
Visit the colourful and bustling open-air market of San Francisco El Alto, where you can try your hand at bartering and perhaps pick up a few souvenirs. We will also see the Church of San Andre Xecul and the beautiful Valley of Almolonga as we travel to our overnight accommodation in Huehuetenango.(B)
Day 6 Huehuetenango/Chichicastenango
Morning visit to the colorful open-air market of Todos Santos Cuchumatanes, a village famous for the intricate weavings and brocade of their textiles. This afternoon we continue to Chichicastenango & overnight. (B)
Day 7 Chichicastenango/Guatemala City
Spend the morning exploring Guatemala’s most famous market which draws vendors from around the country. Late this afternoon, transfer to Guatemala City & overnight. (B)
Day 8 Guatemala City/Copan
Transfer across the border this morning to the Honduran town of Copan Ruinas. Visit to the ancient Mayan city of Copan & explore the hieroglyphic staircase, ball court & tunnels.(B)
Day 9 Copan/Puerto Barrios
Transfer across the central desert region of Guatemala to the lush tropical area of Rio Dulce, with a visit to the UNESCO site of Quirigua en route. Overnight in Puerto Barrios. (B)
Day 10 Puerto Barrios/Rio Dulce
Cruise the Rio Dulce through the Central canyon this morning, arriving at the coastal town of Livingstone for a short visit. This afternoon we continue to the Castillo de San Felipe, and overnight in Rio Dulce. (B)
Day 11 Rio Dulce/Peten
Morning at leisure. This afternoon we transfer to the Peten region and our accommodation. (B)
Day 12 Peten
Depart this morning on a half day tour of Ceibal, the Mayan Archaeological site situated in Sayaxché, near the banks of La Pasión River where you can see crocodiles and exotic birds. (BL)
Day 13 Peten
Half day tour Yaxha Ruins, set amongst lush jungle foliage. Enjoy the sights and sounds of howler and spider monkeys as well as many colorful tropical birds as you explore the ruins. (BL)
Day 14 Peten/Guatemala City
Full day tour UNESCO World Heritage Listed Tikal National Park, where Mayan Temples rise above the jungle canopy. After the tour we transfer to the airport for the flight to Guatemala City. Arrival transfer to hotel. (BL)
Day 15 Guatemala City
Transfer to the airport for your onwards flight.(B)
