A tour of Guatemala’s highlights, explored at a leisurely pace. Start with a visit to Antigua, Guatemala’s prettiest colonial town, before continuing to stunning Lake Atitlan. Try your hand at bargaining at Chichicastenango Markets and visit lakeside communities. Your tour concludes with two of the county’s most spectacular Mayan ruins, Tikal & Yaxha.
Itinerary
Day 1 Guatemala City/Antigua
Arrive Guatemala City Airport & transfer to the stunning colonial city of Antigua
Day 2 Antigua
Walking tour Antigua including entry to the Cathedral, National Palace & San Francisco Church. This afternoon we visit the fabulous Azotea Coffee Farm & Maya Traditions Museum. (B)
Day 3 Antigua/Atitlan
Visit the colourful Comalpa Market this morning; continue overland to Lake Atitlan. (B)
Day 4 Atitlan
Depart by boat across the lake to San Juan la Laguna to visit a woman’s textile cooperative & studios of the regions naïf painters. Continue to Santiago where we enjoy lunch & learn about the indigenous T’zutujil Mayan beliefs & spirituality. (BL)
Day 5 Atitlan/Flores
Spend the morning exploring Chichicastenago, Guatemala’s most famous market, which draws vendors from around the country. Late this afternoon, transfer to Guatemala City Airport & flight to Flores. Transfer to hotel on arrival. (BL)
Day 6 Flores
Half day tour Yaxha Ruins, set amongst lush jungle foliage. Enjoy the sights and sounds of howler and spider monkeys as well as many colorful tropical birds as we picnic by the lake after our tour. (BL)
Day 7 Flores/Guatemala City
Full day tour UNESCO World Heritage Listed Tikal National Park, where Mayan Temples rise above the jungle canopy. After a tour & lunch we transfer to the airport for the flight to Guatemala City. Arrival transfer to hotel. (BL)
Day 8 Guatemala City
Transfer to the airport for your onwards flight.(B)
