Guatemala is home to some of Central America's most raucous and colourful markets- we visit the famous Chichicastenengo Market, as well as the lesser known mercados of San Francisco El Alto and Todos Santos Cuchumatanes. See descendents of the Maya living and working as they have done for centuries in the fertile valleys and mountainous slopes of Western Guatemala.


Itinerary

Day 1 Guatemala City/Antigua

Arrival transfer airport to hotel. Afternoon at leisure to explore the beautiful colonial town of Antigua.

Day 2 Antigua

Depart this morning on a sightseeing tour of Antigua to take in the beautiful churches, convents and colonial buildings which have made the city famous.

Day 3 Antigua/Panajachel

Transfer to stunning Lake Atitlan, stopping en route to visit the archaeological site of Iximche, Mayan ruins composed of four large plazas, each with its own temples and distinct ceremonial use. Check into your lakeside hotel & overnight.

Day 4 Panajachel/Quetzaltenango

After breakfast, we depart across the lake to picturesque Santiago Atitlan, the capital of the Tzutujil Maya Nation, where you can observe one of the largest indigenous communities in Central America. Continue to Quetzaltenango this afternoon, where we overnight.

Day 5 Quetzaltenango/Huehuetenango

Visit the colourful and bustling open-air market of San Francisco El Alto, where you can try your hand at bartering and perhaps pick up a few souvenirs. We will also see the Church of San Andre Xecul and the beautiful Valley of Almolonga as we travel to our overnight accommodation in Huehuetenango.

Day 6 Huehuetenango/Chichicastenango

Morning visit to the colorful open-air market of Todos Santos Cuchumatanes, a village famous for the intricate weavings and brocade of their textiles. This afternoon we continue to Chichicastenango & overnight.

Day 7 Chichicastenango/Guatemala City

Spend the morning exploring Guatemala’s most famous market which draws vendors from around the country. Late this afternoon, transfer to Guatemala City & overnight.

Day 8 Guatemala City

Transfer to the airport for your onwards flight.
