Agua Pura, from Australia to the High Andes

April 11, 2017

Almost a year ago, Contours Travel Managing Director, Ted Dziadkiewicz, joined forces with the Rotary Club of North Melbourne, and Peruvian NGO’s to supply pure water with simple filter devices, to schools in and around the Sacred Valley and Cuzco, Peru. Thanks to Agua Pura Project, today, many children in the region are already enjoying clean, drinking water.

Through Agua Pura, we donate water filters to villages and communities located high in The Andes in Peru. Even though these areas have plenty of water in rivers and streams, it is very dirty, as it flows down from the mountains and carries lots of bacteria.

In 2012, Contours Travel Director,ATed Dziadkiewicz, found out about a similar project through the Rotary Club network. A fellow Rotarian himself, Ted got in contact with a group of Rotarians from the United States that were setting up a project in Belize, to supply the country with 2500 water filters.

Awas such a simple device to set up; Ted realized it would be very effective in a region close to his heart, the Sacred Valley in Peru: a?we didnat have to build wells, or complicated mechanical devices, because the water filter is so fine and small it can be used with just an ordinary bucketa?. Agua Pura granted the seed money to buy the first water filters, which were delivered by Ted himself, together with local Peruvian NGOs.

Agua Pura is a self-funding project, which is why we need your help to accomplish our aim of delivering 500 water filters. Contours Travelas clients, Rotarians, travel agents, friends, family, corporations and the public in general can donate 50 dollars for each water filter they want to send. Agua Pura, through the Rotary Club in Cuzco, jointly distributes the water filters with three local NGOas that know and work with schools in remote villages.

If you would like to be a part of Agua Pura Project, please, donate here. You can also help by transporting a water filter kit yourself. With just 10cm long and less than 250 grams,Athe kit includes everything they need to attach the filter to any plastic bucket or container. Those who are travelling can carry it from Australia to Peru in their main luggage (as one of the pieces is metal and will not be allowed in the cabin.).
