Are you planning your Mexico holiday? You probably haven’t heard about its Magic Towns, Pueblos Magicos. These selected towns spread throughout Mexico were chosen for their historical and cultural heritage, as well as for their natural landscapes. Mexico’s Tourism Ministry encourages towns to develop their tourism infrastructure through community participation and heritage conservation. The list is long, 111 Magic Towns and they are all different.
Before we give you all the tips on how to add these Magic Towns to your trip here is a small sneak peek at what you are missing:
Here are our recommendations to include these vibrant destinations on your itineraries:
On our Colonial Circuit that includes Travellers Choice award-winning San Miguel de Allende, you can also include a stop in Pena de Bernal (known for its vicinity to Fire Opals mines) and Tequisquiapan; cheese and wine await you here. Dolores is where the Mexican independence first started. Tequila near Guadalajara, because you know, Tequila… In Michoacán, you will see Patzcuaro and the mysterious island of Janitzio.
On your Route of the Maya you can add a stop in Valladolid and Izamal. Consider adding a visit to Isla Mujeres for some serious diving, before ending your trip relaxing in Tulum.
Our itinerary Discover Mexico will take you to many of these towns, including Cholula. You can explore more Pueblos Magicos on more itineraries such as Beautiful Baja. Consider a visit to Todos Santos, Copper Canyon – to see Creel and Batopilas – or The Best of Chiapas to see Palenque and San Cristobal de las Casas (you can also consider adding a stopover in Chiapa de Corzo).
