Foodie Latin Must: Dulce de Leche

March 1, 2019

If there is a sweet all Latinos share is Dulce de Leche, they all love it and so will you!

The delicious Dulce de Leche is a popular confection that’s incorporated into many Latin American desserts. Basically, is a milky caramel made by simmering the milk and adding sugar. In some places, they add a bit of vanilla. Dulce de Leche can be found everywhere in Latin America, so wherever you travel with us this is a must.

You will find it in many different sweet foods, and it has different names and it might taste a bit different in every place but it’s a basic that should not be overlooked. In Colombia you will find it with the name of Arequipe, in Argentina as Dulce de leche, same as Brazil ‘Doce de leite’. In Mexico is called Cajeta while in Chile the name is Manjar.

Now that you know how it’s called in every country try it in their beautifully confectioned sweets: You will find it on the churro stands, or when you have an Alfajor, by the way, if you haven’t tried to make Alfajores at home, you are missing out! No worries tho, here is the recipe (You’re welcome).

It’s delicious and you will probably won’t be able to live without it after your trip. Good thing is, you can buy it in any supermarket so you wont miss it when you come back home.
