La Boca neighbourhood is a “must” on your visit to Buenos Aires. Not only because of the colourful Instagrammable houses but because La Boca is the place to understand the Latin love for soccer, dance and pretty much everything!
La Boca is one of the 47 districts of Buenos Aires and its located next to the port where the rivers Riachuelo and Rio de la Plata meet. It is also one of the oldest places in the city. This barrio was created by Italian immigrants who built their houses and coloured them with paint that was left over from the ships, hence the bright landscape.
Wander around in Caminito
Caminito, meaning ´little walkway´, is the most famous street in this neighbourhood. On a sunny day, you can find local artists selling their paintings while performers display tango moves, and buskers play delightful sounds.
Live the passion of soccer (ahem, football)
Right in the middle of the neighbourhood stands the mighty Club Boca Juniors stadium, also known as La Bombonera. That is the nickname used by locals as it resembles a chocolate box. It has a “flat” stand on one side of the pitch and three steep stands round the rest of the stadium.
It gives a special feeling to the barrio and carries the heart of all its residents. For those soccer fans, we recommend a visit to the museum and a guided tour of the stadium. Also, with time to plan, we can arrange a ticket to see this emblematic team play. It will be a lifetime experience!
Live the passion of Tango
However, there is more to La Boca than just football. In Teatro De la Ribera, you can see several contemporary performances. Along with the taverns and venues you can enjoy the local milongas where tango aficionados celebrate this national heritage.
There’s something for everyone
For those wanting cutting edge art museums, you should step into Fundación Proa in the heart of La Boca. It is home to many inspiring exhibits coming from all over the world, one not to miss!
Alternatively, visit the Benito Quinquela Martin house-museum, the former house of the most remarkable Boca artist of all times, world-known Benito Quinquela Martin.
If soccer, dancing, culture and landscape are not enough; how about all of this plus a foodie delight of amazing Argentinean steaks and wine? As we said, there is something for everyone in La Boca, call us to tailor an experience on your holiday to Argentina!
