Dear Emma,
We had a wonderful trip. All our accommodation was fine. Most of our tours were one on one so that was great with the flexibility of free time to have a good look around. All the tour guides were excellent and spoke good English. The trip from Chile to Argentina, day at the snow in Bariloche (need to go back and ski one day) and all the wonderful mountain views, the Iguazu falls, the Amazon, Sacred Valley, Salt plains and having lunch with a local family, Machu Picchu and even meeting the locals at Uros Islands on Lake Titicaca were the highlights. I think the direction we travelled was a good way to go, not only for the altitude, as we learned about the cultures as we went, building on the information at each stop. The tour guide in Lima had a great depth of knowledge about Inca and the early indigenous people. Not to mention her recommendation for a restaurant "Huaca Pucllana" overlooking an Inca Dig which was lit up at night.
Regards
Denis
