This is an eleven day small group tour (set departure dates) that includes the highlights on the Patagonic Route 40. You will visit Buenos Aires, Los Antiguos, Marble Caves, El Chalten and El Calafate.

ITINERARY

Day 1 Buenos Aires

Arrival at the airport and transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon, depart on a panoramic tour of the city. Start in Plaza de Mayo, scenery of the most important events of the country since 1810, then continue to the neighbourhood of La Boca and finish in Palermo and Recoleta. Tonight you will have a dinner show to appreciate the magnetism of tango.

Day 2 Buenos Aires

Day at leisure to explore Buenos Aires on your own.

Day 3 Buenos Aires/Los Antiguos

Transfer to the airport to board the flight to Comodoro Rivadavia. After our arrival, we begin the trip to Los Antiguos, a town near the border with Chile. On the way, we stop at Petrified Forest of José Ormachea where in addition to taking lunch (box lunch), we walk through this desolate and astonishing landscape. Afternoon arrival at Los Antiguos, located on the coast of Lake Buenos Aires (called General Carrera Lake on the Chilean side), the largest lake in South America after Titicaca. Total travelled distance: 490 km (304 miles) Time traveled: 7-8 hours

Day 4 Los Antiguos

Today we cross the border with Chile to reach Chile Chico and once we carry out the migratory process, we begin to border Lake General Carrera by a cornice road.
As we advance, we enter a zone of wooded vegetation and then reach a bay, where we embark to sail to the curious formation of the Marble Chapels. This natural monument, formed by the erosion of water, is composed of three mineral formations of about 4 meters high: The Marble Cathedral, the Marble Chapel and the Marble Cave. During the boat trip, we have the chance to access some of its corners. At the end we take lunch (box lunch) and then return to Los Antiguos. Total travelled distance: 490 km (304 miles) Travel time: 9-10 hours
IMPORTANT NOTE: Boat trip to the Marble Chapels is subject to weather conditions. In case that the boat trip needs to be taken from Puerto Tranquilo, the night in Los Antiguos might be replaced for Chile Chico.

Day 5 Los Antiguos/El Chalten

Departure from Los Antiguos towards Perito Moreno from where we take Route Nº40, that leads us to De Las Manos Cave (Hands Cave), declared Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO. These cave paintings acquire importance due to their antiquity,
that transforms it into the main archaeological site of Patagonia. To approach them, we enter the Canyon of Pinturas River and we walk. After lunch (box lunch), we continue our trip to El Chaltén (in the private option) or to Los Antiguos to board the night bus to El Chaltén (regular option, night on board) Shared Service.
Total travelled distance: 1.040 kms (excursion & bus to El Chaltén)
Travel time: 9 hours in excursion + 11 hours in bus to El Chaltén (at night)
Private Service: travelled distance: 683 km. Travel time: 12 hours

Day 6 El Chalten

Day at leisure to rest and sail on Lake Viedma in the afternoon, in order to admire the biggest glacier go Los Glaciares National Park. To the more adventurous visitors, we suggest replacing the boat trip for a trekking to the Viedma Peninsula.

Day 7 El Chalten/El Calafate

Today we spend our day walking along one of the emblematic paths of El Chaltén: Torre Lagoon, where we get an impressive view of Torre Hill, Adela Mountain Range , Solo Hill and its different glaciers. Arrive into El Calafate this evening.
Walking time: 7-8 hours

Day 8 El Calafate

Today we get to know the Perito Moreno Glacier, within Los Glaciares National Park, declared Natural Heritage Site by UNESCO. During the tour, a stroll along the walkways located in front of the glacier provides views from different perspectives. The visit can be optionally complemented with a sail, that helps to acquire a better dimension of the height of its peaks. Free time for lunch (not included).

Day 9 El Calafate

Day at leisure to explore El Calafate on your own.

Day 10 El Calafate/Buenos Aires

Transfer to the airport for your flight to Buenos Aires. On arrival you will be transferred to your hotel.

Day 11 Buenos Aires

Today you will be transferred to the airport in time for your onward flight.
