Hi Ben
We arrived in Santiago as planned and had 2 great days in Santiago and Valpairaso. We were heading back to our hotel on the last day around 3pm and I simply had a trip on the pavement resulting in a heavy fall. I got up, brushed it off as a bruising fall and caught our flight to Guayaquil as planned at 7pm. Our guide had no idea I was injured because I made little comment on it.
Anyway, during the 5-hour flight I was pretty certain it was more serious than first thought, so at 10:30 we asked our driver to take us to the emergency. I think his name was Horhay, and he couldn’t have been more concerned, helpful and patient. We were there for over two hours, but no complaints as the staff were caring and efficient. It was very quiet too.
An X-ray showed a fracture in my right shoulder. Pain injection, pain tablets and an excellent sling to be worn for 4 weeks, and we were on our way. Norm has been fantastic, very patient and ensured we’ve been ready for each.
Galapagos was amazing and the only activity I missed was snorkelling. In and out of zodiacs worked well with helpful staff.
Amazon was terrific and no real restrictions except the suspended rope bridges to our ‘highest and furtherest’ away treehouse was a challenge to be avoided too many times a day. No complaints though, we probably could have asked for a room change but really we actually enjoyed overcoming the difficulties along the way.
We’re now in Aguascalientes having our first visit to Machu Picchu this afternoon. Loved Sacred Valley and on to Cuzco late tomorrow. As you promised our guides have been outstanding, especially in Santiago, Galapagos, Lima and Machu Picchu and all other support staff too.
So your inquiry as to how we are going. Better than expected due to my injury, but fantastic in every way as you described it would be for us.
Thanks again for planning our wonderful holiday.
Regards,
Sue
