Day 2 Flores
The Reserve offers every day different excursions and tours. Today you can choose to visit Yaxha y Topoxte. After breakfast, you start walking heading to the third largest archaeological site in Guatemala (after Tikal and El Mirador), impressive for the large number of structures close to each other, many of them built more than 15 centuries ago. You will visit the Temple of the Red Hands, several ceremonial causeways, the ball court, the pyramid of sacrifices and more. You will be transferred by boat to Topoxté, a seasonal island in Lake Yax- há, used for 3 millennia as a royal cemetery. Finally, 6 centuries ago there was a group of mysterious Mayans established there who built miniature structures as if they were dwarfs.
There are high chances to see spider monkeys and howler monkeys. At time desired you will have lunch at Restaurant “Portal de Yax-há”.
Day 3 Flores
Today you can head to the largest archaeological site of the classical period, Tikal. With 4000 structures, one of them is the highest in Mesoamerica, it was declared by UNESCO as cultural and natural heritage of humanity in 1979. You will visit the Great Plaza, Temple I, II, III and IV, the complex of astronomical observation “Lost World” and other smaller buildings. 85% of the hike is under the shade of the forest. At the time you prefer, you would have lunch at Restaurant “El Meson” and then visit the Museum of Ceramics. The hike lasts approximately 4 hours, with pauses to rest, and your bilingual guide will be with you at all times.
Day 4 Flores
Today’s tour starts early in the morning with a beautiful one hour and a half drive until you reach Sayaxche and from there you will take a boat and drive for two hours until you arrive to Cráter Azul where you will enjoy its crystalline water, flora, fauna and enjoy a lunch picnic style in the middle of nature. The wildlife heaven called El Pucté is located in Las Cruces, Peten. It hosts a series of springs and creeks of crystal clear water, among them one big stream called Pucté or Cráter Azul. Most of this natural source of water are marine blue and turquoise and the water is so clear you can observe the underwater garden that hides underneath. The Cráter Azul owes its name to the shape of a crater with shallow angles and deep centre, reaching up to 5 meters.
