Visit some of the Mayan Empire’s most awe-inspiring ancient cities on this tailored itinerary through Guatemala and Belize. Clamber to the top of Yaxha ruins to watch the sunset over the jungle canopy and spend a full day exploring UNESCO Heritage Listed Tikal. Cross the border into Belize to see the pyramids of Xunatunich and the enormous archaeological site of Caracol- Belize’s largest.
Arrive Flores and transfer to your hotel. Afternoon tour of Yaxha Ruins, set amongst lush jungle foliage. Before dark, climb to the top of the temple. Enjoy drinks and snacks while watching the sun set over the surrounding rainforest and nearby lake.
A full-day tour will take you through UNESCO World Heritage listed Tikal National Park, one of the most impressive Maya ruins in Central America.
After breakfast, transfer across the border into Belize and continue to San Ignacio, home to some of Belize’s best ruins and adventure activities.
Depart this morning on a half-day tour of Xunantunich – situated on the banks of the Mopan River. Xunantunich was a thriving city near the end of the Classic Period, with large plazas surrounded by pyramids.
Today you will visit the beautiful site of Caracol (‘snail’ in Spanish), the largest archaeological site in Belize, covering 30 square miles of thick jungle. After a guided tour and lunch we continue to Rio Frio pools and caves, where you’ll have time for a swim. Return to your hotel this afternoon.
