ITINERARY

Day 1 Balmaceda/Patagonia National Park

Arrive at Balmaceda Airport by 9:40 am or 10:40 am for your included transfer to Explora Parque Patagonia. After a six-hour journey, check in and relax in your room. Meet your guides to discuss available explorations and tailor your itinerary to your interests and fitness level. After a delicious welcome dinner, relax and enjoy a good night’s sleep in your cosy and comfortable room.

Day 2 Patagonia Park

Wake up to majestic views and prepare for a day of exploration. With your guide, you will leave the lodge on foot to go on the Las Pumas hike, passing through a vast steppe region bordering the Chacabuco River.
This is one of the areas most populated by pumas and guanacos, where you will learn more about these species and how to protect them. The silence, mountains, and remoteness will accompany you on this exploration.
After a lunch break back at the lodge, you will leave by van taking mountain bikes to Los Rios and the starting point for the excursion. The bike ride begins in a sector of fields with crops and livestock, the main economic activities of the area. You will approach from the north, flanking the Cochrane River to appreciate its crystal-clear waters. As you continue, you will come across rolling hills that you will traverse slowly to take advantage of the magnificent views.
Your ride finishes at the bridge over El Salto River, whose waters are a run-off of the Calluqueo Glacier. Return to the lodge late this afternoon to relax before another wonderful dinner.

Day 3 Patagonia National Park

Today you will venture into the surprising landscapes of the Patagonian forest, El Encuentro. You’ll leave the lodge on foot, hiking up a trail to where the steppe and the forest meet.
As you ascend you can appreciate the Chacabuco Valley’s captivating slopes, peaks, and high plateau lagoons. Enjoy the expansive views of the Chacabuco Valley basin and Lake Cochrane from Cerro Tamanguito.
After exploring remote Patagonian wonders, your guide will encourage you to visit the small museum located within Explora’s grounds. The museum is widely considered to be South America’s best on the changing nature of climate in the region, and how this is impacting the environment.

Day 4 Patagonia National Park

Today’s exploration will take you to the Cochrane River by kayak. Walk to Lake Cochrane viewpoint and return via Los Carpinteros trail in the Tamango area. You will cross coigue forests in the first half of the exploration and then flank the riverbank, with pampa and Patagonian steppe landscapes.
Continuing to learn about Patagonia through its food will be the perfect excuse to enjoy locally inspired dishes back at the lodge’s restaurant: Pablo Jesus Rivero, owner of the restaurant Don Julio – distinguished as one the Best South American restaurants by the World’s 50 Best Restaurants ranking in 2020 – honours the Patagonian diversity in a menu designed exclusively for our lodge. Explora provides a culinary experience that interprets and enhances the surrounding nature with food grilled over an open fire.

Day 5 Patagonia National Park

Today you will farewell the lodge and make the return journey to Balmaceda Airport for your onward flight. Transfers depart at 7 am and 8 am – please note that you must be on a flight departing after 3 pm due to the transfer schedule of the lodge.
